SpaceX has announced a significant price cut for its Starlink kit to $199 CAD in specified regions of Canada through its “regional savings” initiative. Originally rolled out to U.S. customers across 28 states, this program is designed to boost subscriber numbers with notable price cuts.
According to a statement on its support page, SpaceX offers “In select Canadian regions, new orders will benefit from a one-time discount where there is ample network capacity.” A $300 discount is applied directly when ordering through Starlink.com, and the same amount is credited if the service is activated post-purchase from a retailer.
Previously, the cost for Canadian customers was $599 CAD per Starlink dish. This price has been adjusted to $499 CAD across Canada, and with the additional $300 discount, the final price is further reduced to $199 CAD ($144 USD), reports PCMag (via Tesla North). That’s a pretty decent price to get started with Starlink internet, which costs $140/month. There is also a $20 shipping and handling charge when you order.
The promotional offer is restricted to the older second-generation Starlink dish, excluding the newer V4 model available in the US.
The discount program is operational in seven Canadian provinces: Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia, and is restricted to the residential tier of Starlink services. Sorry B.C., Alberta and Ontario, you’re not eligible for these additional savings.
SpaceX has established specific regulations to prevent individuals outside the designated regions from accessing the discount. Moving out of the discount region or altering the service plan triggers a chargeback of the initially provided savings. You can’t outsmart SpaceX engineers, sadly.
SpaceX’s policy for customers benefiting from the discount includes several conditions. Those relocating their service address out of a discount area are charged the initial discount value.
Also, changes to the service plan are not permitted for six months following the order unless approved by support with an agreement to repay the discount. A Starlink kit cannot be transferred to another user until either 120 days post-order or 90 days post-activation, whichever occurs first. Additionally, customers who cancel their service within the 30-day trial and fail to return the kit or cover the first month’s fees will be charged the discount amount. So these policies stop people from ordering a cheap kit then ditching Starlink and keeping it.
Anyone going to jump on this Starlink kit discount while it’s still available? Those in rural areas lacking high-speed internet will definitely benefit from these hardware savings.
