However, the software is treading water after Tesla has completely retrained the models in this release. Already at V12.4.2, Tesla FSD is prepared for internal testing over the weekend, which means it might not meet the June deadline. Elon Musk is less present with updates about Tesla's operations, with his social network X and random shitposting occupying most of his time spent tweeting. However, Tesla's Full Self-Driving software has been a constant in his messages, especially in the past two months. On May 8, Musk offered a rare update on the FSD development, explaining the latest changes and setting expectations for future release timelines. According to Musk's tweets, the FSD V12.4 should bring important improvements, as Tesla has completely retrained its models. The release should've rolled out to customers in mid-May, setting high expectations. However, on May 14, Musk announced that the software would only be released to internal testers by May 19. However, FSD V12.4 needed two more days before it got to Tesla employee vehicles and never saw a wider release. The same thing happened with V12.4.1, which was moved to internal testing on June 5. Four days later, as poor reviews surfaced on social media, Elon Musk admitted that the software needed more polish. Tesla took almost three weeks to iron out the bugs and advance to V12.4.2. Again, Musk offered details on June 26, promising this version would start internal testing this weekend. Unless Tesla starts a wider rollout immediately, Tesla owners will not get their FSD V12.4 fix in June. That's a shame because this delays work on other FSD variants, with V12.5 being critical for Cybertruck owners. On May 15, Elon Musk promised that the Cybertruck would finally get Autopilot and FSD functions with the release of FSD V12.5. This version was scheduled for release "in late June," according to Tesla's CEO. However, with the Tesla software team still focusing on squashing the bugs of the V12.4 builds, V12.5 seems like a distant dream. This leaves Cybertruck owners without even basic driver assistance systems more than seven months after debuting. Even though FSD V12.4.2 will indeed start internal testing this weekend, it might take a while before it will be deemed ready for regular customers. Musk reiterated that this FSD version is already much smoother, with the challenge being to keep safety high. Tesla must ensure there are no safety regressions compared to FSD V12.3.6 before replacing this version on customer vehicles. Besides important improvements across the board, the latest FSD build should bring one of the most requested features: the removal of the steering wheel nag. This doesn't mean that Tesla will not check drivers for attentiveness. However, instead of requiring them to keep their hands on the steering wheel, the cabin camera will be used to monitor the driver's behavior. The steering wheel nag will not disappear completely, as the system will still use it when the driver's eyes are not visible (wearing glasses or a hat). Obviously, the steering wheel nag will not disappear for vehicles without a cabin camera. Yeah, we just need to confirm there are no safety regressions
