Elon Musk, known for Tesla and SpaceX, owns a varied car collection, including a 2006 BMW M5 by Hamann Motorsport, reflecting his passion for automotive innovation beyond electric cars.
Elon Musk, renowned as the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and also associated with companies like X (formerly Twitter), Neuralink, and The Boring Company, has a notable collection of cars that extend beyond the Teslas he produces. Despite spearheading Tesla, one of the fastest-growing electric car companies globally, Musk's personal car collection includes various non-Tesla vehicles.
His eclectic tastes range from classic cars to high-performance vehicles, reflecting his interest in both automotive innovation and historical significance. This diverse car collection showcases Musk's passion for automobiles and his broader impact on the automotive industry beyond electric vehicles.

1978 BMW 320i
Elon Musk's initial vehicle purchase in 1994 was the E21 320i, part of BMW's enduring 3 Series lineup. Among the first BMWs to adopt fuel injection, it featured a 2.0-liter inline-four engine generating 110 hp. Musk utilized it as a corporate vehicle during his Zip2 tenure. Unfortunately, an incident where a wheel came off while being driven by an intern prompted Musk to sell the car thereafter.
2012 Porsche 911 Turbo
Elon Musk's admiration for the Porsche 911 played a pivotal role in the genesis of Tesla. Initially, Musk sought to retrofit a Porsche 911 with lithium-ion batteries. When engineer Alan Cocconi declined but mentioned a fledgling company named Tesla, it sparked Musk's interest. As they say, the rest is history.
Musk's personal vehicle was reportedly a 997-era 911 Turbo, though it's uncertain if he still possesses it today.
1967 Jaguar E-Type Roadster
Elon Musk's childhood dream car, reportedly, was the Jaguar E-Type, celebrated as one of the most aesthetically pleasing cars ever manufactured. Enzo Ferrari famously hailed it as "the most beautiful car in the world." Musk opted for the E-Type equipped with a 4.2-liter straight-six engine, which generated 265 horsepower, over the V12 version.
1976 Lotus Esprit
In 2013, Elon Musk acquired 'Wet Nellie,' the iconic Bond car featured in the James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me" at an auction. This vehicle from the movie had the remarkable ability to transform into a submarine.
1920 Ford Model T
The Ford Model T, often called the “Tin Lizzie,” was the first car ever mass-produced, revolutionising the automotive industry with Henry Ford's pioneering assembly line. Its commercial success established cars as practical personal transportation, shaping the modern automotive sector. Elon Musk briefly mentioned owning a Model T in a tweet, although details about his specific car are scarce, except that it was gifted to him by a friend.
2010 Audi Q7
Elon Musk initially expressed criticism towards the Audi Q7, stating, "The Audi Q7 is particularly horrendous," and humorously suggesting that the occupants must be dwarf climbers to reach its rear seats. According to reports, this inconvenience with access to the back row played a role in inspiring the design of Tesla's Falcon wing doors. However, it's noted that Musk no longer owns the Audi Q7.
2006 BMW M5 by Hamann Motorsport
The BMW M5 originally featured a robust 5.0-liter V10 engine, but this particular model was customised by BMW tuner HAMANN to unleash a staggering 600 horsepower and a top speed exceeding 200 mph, achieved by removing the speed limiter. This modified version reportedly served as inspiration for Tesla's infamous “Ludicrous Mode.” However, Elon Musk is no longer in possession of his Hamann M5.
