IRVINE, Calif. (WKRC) - A police department confirmed a Tesla Cybertruck will join its vehicle fleet.
The Irvine Police Department posted to X Tuesday and appeared to tease that a Tesla Cybertruck would be added to its fleet.
"Coming soon to Irvine.......#cybertruck " authorities wrote.
It is unclear if Irvine PD will be the first in America to add a Cybertruck to its vehicle fleet.
According to KTLA, it comes after the Anaheim Police Department (APD) voiced its interest in adding a Cybertruck for "community engagement" purposes, like parades, to spark up conversations with members of the community.
Per the outlet, the APD already uses modified Telsa Model Ys that are deployed âas patrol vehicles, with lights, sirens, and âpassenger compartments for the arrestees.'â
The company behind customized Teslas, UP.FIT, confirmed to KTLA that a police department has placed an order for a marked Cybertruck, but did not mention what department had done so.
When speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Sergeant Karie Davis told the publication that the truck, which starts at around $60,000, will be utilized only for community outreach.
âItâs not a patrol car. It will be used for community relations.â Sergeant Davis confirmed to The Times.
