Roland Pircher, an X user, observed on September 2 that Tesla's Giga Shanghai achieved its highest monthly output since March in August, selling 86,697 Model 3 and Y units domestically and in markets other than China. The result is the second-highest ever and the highest Tesla China has experienced in the first two months of Q3, dating back to the fourth quarter of 2022. This coincides with the high registration numbers observed in the Chinese market recently. The announcement follows Tesla's successes in China in recent months with zero-interest loan offers for both the Model 3 and Model Y. Tesla also discreetly extended the loan offers through the end of the third quarter last week, which could indicate the progress of deliveries in the upcoming weeks. Tesla Reportedly Plans Seven-Seat Model Y Production in Shanghai, with Major Redesign Expected in 2025 A local media report from last week indicated that Tesla may be considering producing a seven-seat Model Y at Giga Shanghai in October. The automaker exclusively manufactures a five-seat version of its electric SUV, regardless of whether it is manufactured in Germany or the United States. It is also widely anticipated that Tesla will introduce a revised Model Y design, designated Juniper, in early 2025. The refreshed Model Y is expected to feature fundamental interior and exterior redesigns and fewer parts to make it slightly more cost-effective to produce, similar to the subtle redesign and simplification of the Model 3, which was released last year in Asian and European markets and this year in North America.
