package alone was priced at $12,000 at the time, and Tesla added not only a drove of accessories but also credits for Powershare installation and free Supercharging. However, Tesla dropped the FSD price to $8,000 in April, with no change to the Foundation Series package's price. This means the
EV
maker erased one-fifth of the Foundation Series package's value. All this without adding something in return or even delivering the FSD capability.
Asked when Cybertruck owners would get working FSD on their trucks, Elon Musk made different promises. At first, he said the Full Self Driving would launch on the Cybertruck in June with V12.5. However, with the FSD development hitting a wall in June, Cybertruck was again put on the back burner. Even when Tesla launched the FSD V12.5 last month, it wasn't for the Cybertruck yet. Asked again, Musk replied that it would come in September.
Until FSD is ready for the Cybertruck, owners will still be missing basic driver assistance systems, including Autopilot. Tesla currently only offers Vision Park Assists, a feature that displays a visualization of the vehicle's surroundings. Better than nothing, but still not what owners expected. In the meantime, a Cybertruck with a 30,000+ VIN was spotted with a manufacturing date of August 19. This means over 30,000 owners still await driver assistance systems, including Autopilot and FSD.
At the current price, the FSD package is only $1,000 more than the "locked-in" price at the time of the Cybertruck's unveiling when the first people placed a reservation. Tesla raised the FSD price to $8,000 in July 2020, which means that most early reservation holders would not see much value in the locked-in FSD price. At the current price, this effectively means that Tesla made the Foundation Series Cybertruck $4,000 more expensive.
It's still unclear how long Tesla will sell the Foundation Series model. Some accounts claim this will be offered for one year after delivery (meaning until December 2024). Others don't think Tesla will drop the markup until next year unless forced by the low demand. However, with new markets recently opened in Canada and Mexico, it could continue with the Foundation Series for a while until it runs out of new customers.
