The great and funny guys over at The Fast Lane Truck took their Tesla Cybertruck to the Humboldt County Dragway in Iowa for some 'cornsweat' action – and some quarter-mile races, too. But were they honest about everything?
Just like many other people out there – and especially just like any other self-respecting socialite – the Fast Lane Truck folks have a Tesla Cybertruck in their garage. And they can do anything they want with it – including wrapping it funky or pitting it at the local racetrack against another pickup truck.
They say that the Tesla Cybertruck is a different beast – and we're not going to enter the never-ending polemics regarding its design, many advantages, or flaws. We wouldn't be over in a week from now. Anyway, the
EV
pickup truck has a wacky design and more power than needed – which is great when you want to have some fun at the local quarter-mile dragstrip.
That's why they gathered at Humboldt Dragway to do some 'cornsweating' and race their Tesla Cybertruck against another different kind of beast – the
ICE
-powered Ram 1500 TRX. Unfortunately, the latter is now an endangered species because it's going out of production to be marginally replaced by the lower-powered Ram 1500 RHO, so it's going to be hard to find examples for all the sorts of shenanigans YouTubers usually engage with.
Luckily for TFL Truck, they have a sponsor – Granger Motors – a dealer in Granger, Iowa, who gave them not one but two examples of the Ram 1500 TRX variety. The white unit is a stock 6.2-liter supercharged V8-equipped Ram 1500 TRX, and the Tesla Cybertruck first goes against it. Naturally, the more powerful EV takes the win – though not without a moment of panic at the start of the race when the TRX beats it off the line.
Secondly, the main event unfolds for the second race when the Tesla Cybertruck has to go up against the tuned Ram 1500 TRX. It's a sleeper – because you can't see hints regarding the power increase, and the ICE-powered vehicle easily takes the win, though its driver also admits to cheating a little bit and 'redlighting' the start. The final encounter is when the quarter-mile times need to come out clean, and the Ram 1500 TRX narrowly edges the Tesla Cybertruck.
That's a good day for the ICE-powered fans, for sure. But we have some questions. Can we really trust the TFL Truck guys when the track didn't have an independent tally of their ETs? Can we really believe them when they said the phone app registered a better time for the Ram 1500 TRX when they can just do whatever they want with it? Also, is it fair to claim that this is an honest drag race when the folks over at Granger Motors sponsored the video and used their trucks for the races?
