HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The 45th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised a record amount of roughly $3 million statewide and dozens of local non-profit organizations were awarded grants at a ceremony at the Prince Waikiki on Monday.
“This is the signature event of the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association. It’s our way to help our nonprofits throughout the community,” said Mufi Hannemann, president & CEO of Hawaii Tourism & Lodging Assocation.
“Those groups that are helping our keiki, helping our kupuna, helping families, making sure that we make this a better place to live, work and raise our families.”
Some 60 organizations received checks totaling about $400,000.
“It’s our way from the hospitality industry to follow that great admonition of to whom much is given, much is expected,” Hannemann said.
“Today was all about playing Santa Claus and being sure that they get that check, that they can take back to their organizations and also our way of saying mahalo, mahalo, mahalo.”
