The Wolves have had no trouble moving the ball through their first two games, a trend that should continue this week in a favorable matchup against Archie Williams. Casa Grande stands pat at No. 5 after a solid bounce-back win over Balboa. This is the Gauchos team many expected this year, with Danny Mercado totaling five touchdowns and the defense pitching a shutout with a couple takeaways. Another big test looms this week against No. 3 Rancho Cotate. St. Vincent slides two spots to No. 6 this week, in large part because of the wins from Casa Grande and American Canyon. The Mustangs suffered one of their worst losses in years, but their opponent was far from a slouch. Truckee is one of the best medium-sized schools in the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, has won back-to-back Nevada state titles and has now won 25 games in a row. St. Vincent probably won't face a better team this season. Vintage remains at the No. 7 spot this week after a solid win over Fairfield. The Crushers’ passing game has made strides (317 yards through two games, 299 all last season) and their defense stepped up last week. They’ll have a good chance to pick up a few more wins, and possibly a few more spots in our rankings, over the coming weeks.
