Twenty new Starlink satellites joined thousands of others in orbit following a Falcon 9 rocket launch Friday morning from Vandenberg Space Force Base.
Liftoff occurred at 6:50 a.m. from Space Launch Complex-4, with the first-stage booster safely landing on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship in the Pacific Ocean.
An hour after liftoff, SpaceX confirmed the satellites had deployed.
Friday’s mission occurred a week after United Airlines announced plans to install Starlink Wi-Fi devices to the airline’s aircraft fleet.
“United expects to have Starlink on all United aircraft – more than 1,000 planes – over the next several years,” the company said last week in a written statement.
“Testing begins in early 2025 with the first passenger flights expected later that year.”
Starlink service on United aircraft will be free, according to the airline.
“Everything you can do on the ground, you’ll soon be able to do onboard a United plane at 35,000 feet, just about anywhere in the world,” said United CEO Scott Kirby.

The company led by Elon Musk has launched thousands of Starlink satellites into orbit from Florida and Vandenberg for the constellation designed to provide internet service anywhere on the globe, especially in areas with unreliable or unavailable access.
The West Coast has seen Starlink launches since September 2021.
“We’re excited to team up with United Airlines to transform the inflight experience,” said Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer at SpaceX. “With Starlink onboard your United flight, you’ll have access to the world’s most advanced high-speed internet from gate to gate, and all the miles in between.”
This was the third Falcon rocket launch of the month from Vandenberg and the second delivering Starlink satellites.
