Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, has ambitious plans to send about five uncrewed Starship missions to Mars within the next two years, he announced on social media platform X.
The first crewed mission will depend on the success of these uncrewed flights. If successful, a crewed mission could be launched in four years, but challenges could delay it by another two years.
Musk, known for frequently altering timelines, earlier said the first uncrewed mission would reach Mars in five years, with a crewed mission planned for seven years. A recent successful test of Starship's landing capabilities reinforces these goals. NASA's Artemis 3 mission, also using Starship, has been delayed to 2026.
