The astronaut crew has arrived and the spacecraft is on the launch pad. NASA's Crew-9 has a target launch date no earlier than 2:05 p.m. EDT on Thursday but weather may not cooperate. Deep into hurricane season, a storm is brewing in the Gulf of Mexico, and anticipated to make landfall this week as a powerful Hurricane Helene on the west coast of Florida.
The storm will impact the Brevard area late Wednesday through Friday with lots of rain and high winds − just when Crew-9 is set to launch.
Crew-9 is NASA's next astronaut rotation onboard the International Space Station, and the 10th overall flight of NASA astronauts by SpaceX − including Demo-2 and Crews 1-9. SpaceX flies NASA astronaut crews to the space station as part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program.
