Tesla has named the new version of its electric saloon ‘Maximum Range Rear-Wheel Drive’ and highlights that this model boasts the longest range in the Model 3 lineup. Specifically, the US-based electric car manufacturer states that the new version has an energy consumption of 12.5 kWh per 100 km and a WLTP range of 702 kilometres. In Germany, the Model 3 ‘Maximum Range Rear-Wheel Drive’ will be available from €44,990, with deliveries starting in November. In the UK, it will be priced from £44,990 (approximately €53,500).
Tesla hasn’t specified the exact reasons behind the improved range. In one of its rather rare press releases, the company simply stated that the Model 3 with a range of 702 kilometres is ‘the most efficient electric vehicle currently offered in Europe’. Furthermore, Tesla added: ‘Such superior range at an affordable price is the culmination of our ongoing engineering efforts to enhance energy efficiency while simultaneously reducing costs.’
The Model 3 series itself is now seven years old. Tesla launched its first electric saloon for the mass market back in 2017, branding it as the ‘Model 3’. Over the years, many versions have come and gone. The current selection in the German configurator is as follows:
