NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Hurricane Milton at one point making it into the top 5 strongest hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin is making its final approach to the western Florida Gulf Coast. The storm is downgraded to a category 3 still a major storm.
Hurricane Milton brings high winds to all of central Florida. Storm surge for Sarasota now at 8-12'. The storm will move faster later tonight and clear the peninsula by mid afternoon tomorrow. In the meantime, we'll see blue skies, cool mornings lower humidity into the weekend. pic.twitter.com/OUAc9NmN8G — Bruce Katz (@BruceKatzFOX8) October 9, 2024
A cold front earlier in the week helped to keep the storm to our south and pleasant dry conditions settled across southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Temperatures will remain comfortable in the upper 60s to low 70s for most with a few spots dropping into the upper 50s for overnight lows. Daytime highs are still a bit toasty in the mid to upper 80s, but with low humidity it feels nice. The pleasant conditions will stick around right into the start of next week. In the extended forecast we’re already looking ahead to the first real fall front of the year expected to arrive on Tuesday. Behind the front highs should drop significantly and we may see lows in the 40s.
