CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - After Corbin’s 56-51 win over Johnson Central last Friday, Redhound head coach Luke Salmons called Kade Elam “the best quarterback in the state.” Adding he does not make bold statements like that often, Salmons’ words reflected an even bolder performance from the senior signal caller.
No. 1 Corbin vs. No. 2 Johnson Central No. 1 Corbin outlasts No. 2 Johnson Central in week seven thriller
One hundred and seven points were scored between the No. 1 Corbin Redhounds and No. 2 Johnson Central Golden Eagles in an offensive onslaught in week seven.
Elam threw for 421 yards and six touchdown passes. He ran for 142 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns. In all, Elam mustered up 563 yards of total offense against the Golden Eagles.
“I think that is the first time I have had over 100 rushing yards,” Elam said. “I don’t know about passing, but it was just a lot of fun to go out there and compete with the guys and get the win.”
Elam’s individual numbers from week seven read like the sum of multiple players’ stat lines, but big performances are no stranger to the senior. Elam ranks in the top 10 for passing statewide.
“He is definitely a division one kid and has what it takes,” Salmons said. “He has all the intangibles of toughness, grit and leadership.”
After Friday’s win, Elam received an offer to play football at Ohio University.
