As Hurricane Milton barreled over southwest Florida, the dangerous storm's flooding rains and multiple tornadoes left over three million residents without power and at least nine people dead.Â
The Category 3 storm made landfall Wednesday night near Siesta Key, dumping nearly a foot of rain in west and central Florida and bringing life-threatening winds. Along the shores of Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, 17.6 inches of rain were measured.
Milton had moved off Florida's east coast by Thursday morning, but storm surge warnings remain in effect for parts of Florida's east coast and southern coast of Georgia. Flooding will be ongoing in east and central Florida until Thursday afternoon.Â
In St. Petersburg, where Milton's impacts were felt hardest, the roof of Tropicana Field stadium was ripped off on Wednesday night. The home of the Tampa Bay Rays was set up as a staging site for debris cleanup operations and first responders.Â
Residents who were unable to evacuate published scenes from the storm and its aftermath as reporters documented the destruction. Take a look below.
