In the U.S., Tesla has discontinued the Model 3 Standard Range RWD due to similar tariff-related challenges. The Standard Range model, which used LFP batteries from China, was priced at US$38,990 but did not qualify for the States’ $7,500 federal EV rebate due to its Chinese components. The Long Range RWD model does qualify for the rebate, however, making it a more attractive option anyway. With the rebate applied, the Long Range RWD model costs US$34,990, even cheaper than the previous Standard Range variant.
Tesla’s introduction of the Long Range RWD variants of the Model 3 and Model Y in Canada is proof of the company’s ability to adapt to changing market conditions. The shift will mark Tesla’s resuming sourcing vehicles for the Canadian market from its Fremont, California and Giga Texas facilities for the first time since late 2022.
