Elon Musk has overdelivered with the latest autonomy event that just finished. Let's go over what happened.
Cybercab
First off, Elon Musk showed the Cybercab. It's a car with butterfly wings that open up to the side, and it doesn't have a steering wheel or pedals. This is very close to what I envisioned it being like.
Elon Musk said the Cybercab will be sold for purchase and will be under $30,000, beginning production sometime in 2026 (before 2027 at the latest).
Elon Musk sees people becoming fleet owners of the Cybercab vehicle, owning 10 to 20 of them and managing them like a shepherd. I plan on getting one whenever it comes out.
This car will have automatic cleaning that takes place after a ride with someone inside.
It will also use induction charging (wireless) with no charging plugs.
This is one of the most important vehicles that will ever be made.
Compact Cars Coming in 2025
No mention of the compact cars coming in 2025 was made, so it looks like Elon wanted to keep the focus on autonomous vehicles like the Cybercab and the existing fleet of Tesla vehicles.
No App
Elon did not show off a ride-sharing app, and if there is one negative about this event, I would say this is it. I would have liked to have seen a ride-sharing app that starts with supervised FSD.
However, an app isn't the hardest part of autonomy - an app is easy to make. The hard part is making autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots.
Final Thoughts
This event was a nice demonstration of the technology of Tesla. For the medium to long term, this is very exciting. For the short term, I expect the stock to drop a bit.
Outside of that, it was amazing to see all the driverless Tesla vehicles and the Optimus humanoid robot interacting with other people.
The future is bright!
