Billionaire and X, formerly Twitter, CEO Elon Musk, who has been accused of spreading fake news, has stirred another controversy after claiming that the British Empire ended global slavery.
"Not many people these days know that the British Empire was the driving force behind ending the vast majority of global slavery. Slavery or de facto slavery was standard practice throughout the world from the dawn of civilization until a few hundred years ago. It is even discussed at length in the Bible, for example," Musk said in a tweet.
He also shared tweets from @thinkingwest, which claimed that the former British Empire "did a lot of good."
The Twitter account stated, "Decades before the American Civil War and the 13th Amendment ended slavery in the US, Britain passed two anti-slavery laws: the 'Slave Trade Act 1807,' banning the slave trade across the empire, and the 'Slavery Abolition Act 1833,' which officially made it illegal to own slaves."
