The Golden State Warriors and forward Jonathan Kuminga aren't close in negotiations regarding a contract extension, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Charania reported on Friday that "both sides are still far apart in extension conversations" and there is a "real belief" that discussions could play out into the season as well as restricted free agency.
NBA on ESPN The deadline for the Warriors to give Kuminga a rookie-scale contract extension is on Monday.
Charania also reported that there is a "window" for Golden State to extend shooting guard Moses Moody before the deadline, with the 22-year-old "much more likely" to receive a new deal compared to Kuminga.
Since he was selected with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, Kuminga's role in the Warriors' rotation has gradually increased with each year. He averaged a career-high 26.3 minutes per game last season, registering 46 starts in 74 appearances after starting a total of 28 combined games during his first two years.
He recorded 17.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 53.1 percent from the field as a starter last season.

Kuminga is entering the final year of his rookie contract, but the Warriors will still be able to bring him back if a long-term extension isn't agreed upon. Even if he plays out the 2024-25 season without a deal, he'll be a restricted free agent during the ensuing offseason and Golden State will have the opportunity to match any offer he receives.
NBA insider Jake Fischer said that Kuminga and his representatives were seeking a full max offer during the No Cap Room podcast on Aug. 7 (h/t HoopsHype). However, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported on Sept. 12 that the Warriors weren't prepared to offer the forward a full five-year extension.
It appears that there will need to be significant progress made in negotiations in order for Kuminga to receive a new deal before Monday.
