Local residents can expect to witness a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch Saturday evening sending a payload of 20 internet satellites to low-Earth orbit from the West Coast at Vandenberg Space Force Base, with one or more sonic booms expected to follow.
Liftoff is scheduled for 10:13 p.m. from Space Launch Complex 4 East on Oct. 19, with a backup opportunity available on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 10:08 p.m.Â
A total of 20 global internet broadband satellites payloads on this flight are part of the 648-microsatellite OneWeb constellation being constructed by Eutelsat Group.Â
This mission, according to the European satellite-manufacturing group, completes the deployment phase for the first-generation broadband satellites project, enhancing global internet connectivity.
After stage separation, Falcon 9's first-stage booster will return to Landing Zone 4 at Vandenberg and likely produce one or more sonic booms audible to nearby communities, according to base officials.
This is the seventh flight of the first stage booster supporting this mission, which previously launched USSF-62 and five Starlink missions.Â
A live webcast of this mission will begin approximately five minutes prior to liftoff on www.spacex.com and X.
