The vehicle, designed to offer long-distance freight transport using electric power, performed a fully loaded long-haul journey of 390 miles (625 km) with a gross combined weight of 75,000 pounds (34 metric tons).
The Tesla Semi demonstrated an energy consumption rate of 1.72 kWh per mile, surpassing both DHL’s and Tesla’s expectations. The truck’s range of 500 miles (800 km) on a single charge was confirmed during the trial.
DHL drivers reportedly adapted quickly to the vehicle’s smart features, with improvements noted in performance, driver comfort, and overall operational efficiency.
The trial results have encouraged DHL to consider how the Tesla Semi might be integrated into its fleet, with Tesla planning large-scale production of the electric truck in 2026.
In September 2024, the Tesla Semi made its European debut at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Europe’s largest transport trade fair
