Eutelsat, a leading satellite operator, launched 20 satellites into space with the help of SpaceX on Sunday, following their merger with OneWeb last year. This represents a significant milestone for the Paris-based company, which aims to expand its satellite-driven communication network.
The launch took place at California's Vandenberg Space Force Base using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, marking the first OneWeb satellite launch since the merger. Eutelsat CEO Eva Berneke confirmed there are plans for more launches in the future to bolster their current constellation of over 600 low Earth orbit satellites.
Targeting broadcasters, telecom operators, and aviation firms for in-flight connectivity, Eutelsat is strategically positioning itself within the telco ecosystem. With a $4 billion order backlog and strategic talks with major players like AT&T, the company is keen on penetrating growing markets like India and Saudi Arabia.
