A Rottweiler was rescued from Lake Waban in Wellesley on Saturday morning after it got away from its owner, chased a group of geese into the water, and began having trouble swimming, police said. Police and firefighters responded to a call reporting the dogâs predicament at 8:18 a.m., Wellesley police said in a video posted on social media.
The dogâs owner went into the water to get it but had to return to shore because the water was very cold and the dog was far from land, police said.
Two Wellesley College boats went into the water to rescue the dog, police said. Police also launched a drone to locate and track the dog during the rescue.
Video recorded by the drone shows the dog paddling in the water as one of the boats approaches. The dog evaded the first boat but was captured by a person on the second boat as it tried to swim away.

Rescue crews were there when the dog reached land, the video showed.
The dog was reunited with its family and was not injured, police said. Its owner was treated at the scene.
âThe geese managed to elude the Rottweiler without incident,â police said.
