NASA's SpaceX Crew-8 mission, currently stationed aboard the International Space Station (ISS), faces delays in its return to Earth due to unfavorable weather near Florida's splashdown sites. According to NASA's latest update, the weather remains marginal for an undocking attempt on Tuesday, October 22, and Wednesday, October 23.
NASA and SpaceX are closely monitoring conditions and will aim for no earlier than 9:05 pm EDT on October 22 for undocking, provided there is an improvement. Current forecasts suggest the weather could improve later in the week, offering a clearer window for a safe return.
Veteran astronauts, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, launched into space onboard Boeing's Starliner spacecraft in June this year for an eight-day mission. However, the Starliner faced technical problems and returned without its crew to ensure the safety of the astronauts.
Astronauts Nick Hague, commander, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov headed to the ISS aboard the Dragon spacecraft. Known for its reusability and reliability, the Falcon-9 rocket carried these two astronauts and have two spare seats for Williams and Wilmore.
Initially, the Crew-9 was set to launch with four members. But, the difficulties with the Starliner spacecraft forced NASA to alter its plans.
