Tesla is making progress and is close to finalizing the design of the new Tesla Roadster, Musk said, calling the EV's deposit holders "long suffering."
The reason the Roadster hasn't come out yet is because the EV "is not just the icing on the cake, it's the cherry on the icing on the cake," Musk said. "It’s really going to be something spectacular." Back in 2019, Musk raised a few eyebrows saying that the new Roadster would use thrusters to float above the ground.
He seemed to allude to some of that, mentioning venture capitalist and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel. Thiel has lamented that the future doesn't have flying cars.
"Well, we'll see," Musk said.
Musk first promised the new Roadster in 2017, requiring a deposit of $5,000 and a wire transfer and saying that the ultra-luxury sports car would be available in 2020.
