Updated Astronaut Jeanette Epps gives shoutout to Syracuse following Sunday night launch
Dr. Epps is from Syracuse and earned her bachelorâs in physics from LeMoyne College. She went on to get her masterâs in science and a doctorate in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Epps was selected by NASA as an astronaut in 2009 and the Crew-8 mission was her first spaceflight. Dr. Epps has said she hopes kids in Syracuse, especially young girls, can be inspired by her story.
"Even though I didn't believe that I could do that, I want kids and especially young girls to know that, hey, if I'm doing this, there's absolutely no reason you can't pursue this as well. But putting in the time and effort, you can learn anything. Everything is hard until you learn it. But once you get involved and you start just doing things and going forward and following your passion, I think they'll go very, very far," said Dr. Epps.
