(WIBW) - Topeka Police are asking people to avoid the area of SW Washburn Ave. between 24th St. and Shunga Dr. as they investigate a shooting incident in the area. TPD responded to an accident investigation near the Stormont Vail Events Center on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, at approximately p.m., an issued press release stated. During the investigation, one individual from the accident was located at the 1500 BLK of SW Shunga Dr. While the investigation was continued by officers, shots were fired from inside a residence. No officers were injured during the shooting. TPD was involved in a standoff. Officers have been trying to get a man to exit a residence near Washburn and Shunga Dr. Citizens are still asked to avoid the area while Officers and Detectives are at the scene.
