THANKS FOR JOINING US TONIGHT AT TEN. I’M GULSTAN DART AND I’M EDIE LAMBERT. LET’S START WITH A LIVE LOOK AT DONNER SUMMIT. THIS IS I-80 EAST AND YOU CAN SEE TRAFFIC JUST AT A STANDSTILL. THIS IS ABOUT 7200 FOOT ELEVATION. AND YOU CAN SEE DEFINITELY THE IMPACT OF ALL THE PROBLEMS ON I-80 TONIGHT. WE HAVE TEAM COVERAGE. OUR CREW IS LIVE IN THE SIERRA WITH AN UPDATE ON THOSE CONDITIONS. AND YOU CAN SEE THEY’RE MOVING RIGHT ALONG AT THIS POINT. WE START WITH OUR METEOROLOGIST HEATHER WALDMAN TRACKING THE LATEST ON THIS WET WEATHER. YEAH. LIVE TRACKER THREE A LITTLE BIT FURTHER DOWN THE HILL WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE ROAD WAS JUST WET WHERE THEY WERE. BUT THIS IS DONNER SUMMIT AND YEAH, THIS IS VIDEO. IT’S NOT JUST A STILL IMAGE. THOSE CARS NOT GOING ANYWHERE. THE ROAD HAS BEEN SNOW COVERED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR NOW AND CHAIN CONTROLS HAVE BEEN UP EVER SINCE. THIS IS WHAT 80 LOOKS LIKE AT KINGVALE. REMEMBER WE HAVE THAT CLOSURE FROM CISCO GROVE TO KINGVALE, SO NOBODY COMING THROUGH HERE AND YOU CAN SEE THE SNOW COVERING THE ROAD THERE AS WELL. THIS IS WHAT THE RADAR LOOKS LIKE. IT’S BEEN SNOWING STEADILY ALONG I-80 FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF HOURS. SNOW IS ALSO PICKED UP ALONG HIGHWAY 50. WE’LL BE KEEPING AN EYE ON CONDITIONS ON BOTH FREEWAYS THROUGH TONIGHT AND INTO EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. HEAVIEST BAND OF THE RAIN HAS ALREADY MOVED THROUGH SACRAMENTO, NOW MOVING ACROSS THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY AND INTO CALAVERAS AND TUOLUMNE COUNTY. BUT WE’RE NOT TOTALLY DONE WITH THE SHOWERS YET AROUND SACRAMENTO. HERE’S THE LEADING EDGE OF THAT RAIN A COUPLE TENTHS OF AN INCH, LIKELY FALLING IN STOCKTON WITHIN THE LAST 30 TO 45 MINUTES OR SO. POLLOCK PINES SEEING A LITTLE BIT OF A BREAK IN THE WET WEATHER. NOTICE YOU ARE BELOW THAT RAIN SNOW LINE AND IT’S GOING TO STAY THAT WAY THROUGH TONIGHT. THAT SNOW LEVEL WILL STAY AROUND 6000FT OVERNIGHT TONIGHT AND DROP DOWN AS LOW AS ABOUT 5500FT INTO SATURDAY MORNING. HERE ARE SOME RAIN TOTALS AS OF 930. THESE NUMBERS WILL KEEP GOING UP THROUGH THE NIGHT AROUND A QUARTER OF AN INCH IN MOST VALLEY SPOTS. NICE TO SEE THAT HERE AS WE’RE STARTING OFF THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER. MAIN AREA OF RAIN AND SNOW IS PASSING THROUGH TONIGHT. SATURDAY IS GOING TO START OFF DAMP AND CERTAINLY COOL, BUT WE’RE NOT GOING TO ACCUMULATE MUCH NEW RAIN OR SNOW DURING THE DAY ON SATURDAY IN FACT, I THINK WE’LL SEE SOME DRY TIME IN THE AFTERNOON. SUNDAY. THE SUN RETURNS. IT WILL BE BRIGHT. IT WILL BE BRISK, AND THERE’S A BREEZE TO TALK ABOUT TOO. WE’LL SEE WITH THE EXTENDED FORECAST IN A BIT. ALL RIGHT. WE HAVE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE IMPACT OF THE SNOW COMING DOWN IN THE SIERRA RIGHT NOW. KCRA 3’S PEYTON HEADLEE HAS BEEN RIGHT IN IT IN LIVE TRACKER THREE ON INTERSTATE 80. SO, PEYTON, LET’S START WITH WHERE YOU ARE RIGHT NOW AND HOW IT’S LOOKING. WELL, WE ARE ON WESTBOUND INTERSTATE 80 HEADING TOWARDS NYACK RIGHT NOW. AND IN TERMS OF ELEVATION, WE ARE JUST OVER 5000FT. AND WHERE WE’RE AT, SNOW HAS BEEN COMING DOWN FOR THE LAST TWO HOURS OR SO. I’LL FLIP THE CAMERA AROUND SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT WE’RE LOOKING AT HERE. SO IT’S NOT STICKING TO THE ROADS ON THE HIGHWAY QUITE YET AS GOOD NEWS. BUT DRIVERS ARE DRIVING CAREFULLY AND YOU CAN SEE THERE ARE NOT A LOT OF CARS ON THE INTERSTATE NOW. BUT OF COURSE, WE DO KNOW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CLOSURES DUE TO ACCIDENTS, SO CARS COULD BE GETTING HELD UP. AND OF COURSE CHAIN CONTROLS ARE IN EFFECT, SO THAT COULD SLOW TRAFFIC AS WELL. SO THIS ALL STARTED AROUND 730 THIS EVENING UP HERE WITH SOME LIGHT RAIN. AND IT DIDN’T TAKE LONG. LESS THAN 30 MINUTES ACTUALLY FOR IT TO TURN INTO LIGHT SNOW. SO THAT SNOW STARTED FALLING HEAVIER AND FASTER WITHIN THE LAST HOUR. AND WE SAW IT BEGIN TO STICK TO THE GROUND AROUND ABOUT 9 P.M. THAT’S FROM THE GAS STATION THAT WE WERE AT IN CISCO GROVE. AND WHILE WE WERE THERE, WE SAW A LOT OF CARS PULLING OUT TO FILL UP. BUT ALSO SOME OF THEM JUST PARKING AND SITTING IN THEIR CARS, MAYBE WAITING OUT SOME OF THAT HEAVIER SNOW AND WE ALSO SAW A LOT OF SEMI TRUCKS STOPPING THERE AS WELL. THEY WERE PULLING OFF AND PUTTING THEIR CHAINS ON. WE TALKED TO A FEW DRIVERS AT THAT GAS STATION WHO SAID THEY’RE HAPPY TO SEE THE SNOW, BUT ALSO BEING VERY CAUTIOUS ON THE ROADS. IT’S EXCITING BECAUSE IT HASN’T SNOWED IN A WHILE, SO I DON’T LIVE WHERE IT SNOWS. I LIKE SEEING IT. MY ONLY WORRY IN THE THE FIRST SNOW OF THE SEASON, BECAUSE NOBODY’S REALLY USED TO IT. SO I KIND OF WONDER WHAT EVERYBODY ELSE IS GOING TO DO. YEAH, I’M REALLY EXCITED. I’M IT’S REALLY NICE HAVING SUMMERS HERE. THE SUMMERS ARE AMAZING, BUT THEN, YOU KNOW, THIS TIME OF YEAR KIND OF IS A LITTLE ROUGH. BUT AS SOON AS THE SNOW REALLY HITS, IT’S AMAZING. AND BACK OUT HERE LIVE ON WESTBOUND INTERSTATE 80. YOU CAN YOU CAN SEE THE SNOW COMING DOWN. IT’S KIND OF STARTING TO STICK ON AREAS OFF TO THE SIDE, BUT NOT NECESSARILY IN THE LANES WHERE CARS ARE DRIVING. SO AGAIN, CHAIN CONTROLS ARE IN EFFECT IF YOU’RE HEADED EASTBOUND THEY WILL BE REQUIRED FROM NYACK TO THE DONNER LAKE INTERCHANGE. BUT OF COURSE, IF YOU ARE HEADING OUT AND GETTING ON THE ROADS, BE SURE TO DRIVE WITH CAUTION. LIVE ON INTERSTATE 80. PEYTON HADLEY KCRA THREE NEWS PEYTON, THANK YOU AND THANKS FOR THE TIMELY INFORMATION. SO WE CAN LET PEOPLE KNOW WHAT’S OPEN AND WHAT’S CLOSED RIGHT NOW. WE APPRECIATE IT. YEAH. YOU CAN ALSO CONSTANTLY GET INFORMATION AND TRACK THIS SYSTEM AS IT MOVES THROUGH YOUR AREA, RIGHT DOWN TO YOU
