OLATHE, Kan. (KCTV) - Many carved pumpkins will start to rot anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, but there are better ways to dispose of pumpkins than sending them off to the landfill.
If left in landfills, pumpkins can hurt the environment and can produce harmful gases when broken down. Halloween’s over, but don’t let those pumpkins haunt the landfill!
Instead, bring them to the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens or the Overland Park Farmers Market for composting and give them a second life. 🎃

In Olathe, a proper send-off can be given to pumpkins by dropping them off at the Olathe Community Recycling Center’s Food Waste drop-off. The City of Olathe gave another option: putting pumpkins in your yard waste cart for curbside collection.
