INDIANAPOLIS (WNDU) - The Marian High School girls soccer team’s quest for its first state title since 2012 fell short in a hard-fought match against the No. 2 team in the state on Saturday afternoon.
The No. 3 Knights lost to Lawrenceburg in a shootout in the Class 2A state final at Michael Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium at IU Indianapolis.
The teams were scoreless after regulation and two overtimes, forcing the championship game to be decided by penalty kicks. That’s where the Tigers outscored the Knights 4-1.
It’s a heartbreaking end to a remarkable season for the Knights, who finish the year with 16 wins.
Congrats to Marian on a great run!
Congratulations to the Mishawaka Marian Knights the 2024 Class 2A Girls Soccer State Runner-Up! ⚽️🏅@marianhssports pic.twitter.com/UZkuorFALo
