CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) - A dog was taken to the hospital after an electric heater started a fire on a back porch Sunday.
Canton firefighters were called to a home on the 700 block of Shorb Avenue NW just before 10 a.m.
When the firefighters got on scene, they found the homeowners trying to put out the fire with a garden hose, according to a release from the Canton Fire Department.
A dog was in a cage on the back porch when the fire started, according to the release. A neighbor alerted the people in the home about the fire after they heard the dog howling.
The release said a neighbor eventually put out the fire with an extinguisher and took the burned dog to a veterinary hospital.
There was some damage to the porch and siding of the home, the release said.
