But, whilst appearing on the The Royal Beat: Princess Anne at 70, Katie Nicholl, the royal correspondent for Vanity Fair said that Anne was 'quite upset' by the accusation online that she had criticised the presidential candidate. Katie said: "I don't think she was even aware of that big hoo-ha that she caused when she was seen almost gossiping with the world leaders about Trump. Then when she was told by (royal) aides that she had become a Twitter sensation, she was actually quite upset about it, because she's always been very careful to not put a foot wrong." With the furore on social media afterwards the Princess did not take well to the suggestions that she had offended Trump and was left 'upset' by the thought that she had criticised him: "You know you don't see her criticised for wading into politics or offending or upsetting people and so I think that suggestion that she might have offended Trump was a little upsetting for her."
