Incumbent Ines DeLuna is likely to retain her seat on the board of Napa Valley College, early results showed.
For the Area 6 seat, which stretches from North Napa to St. Helena, she took on Scott Owens, who has previously served as a Napa County Library Commissioner and as a citizen adviser to the Napa Valley Transportation Authority.
With 28% of the total potential vote counted, DeLuna is leading with 56.65%, while Owens has 43.35%. The Press Democrat will rely on information from election officials and the candidates themselves before naming a winner, as not everyone who received a ballot will have voted.
Only one of the three available seats on the seven-member board of Napa Valley College, the county’s only community college, was contested this election. For the others, the incumbents ran unopposed.
As a result, the Napa Valley College board will remain unchanged if DeLuna clinches the win.
DeLuna has been on the Napa Valley College board since 2020. Over the years, she has served on a number of boards, including that of the St. Helena Unified School District.
She currently sits on the board of the Community College League of California, a nonprofit that supports community college districts in the state. She is also the board chair at Farmworkers Institute of Education and Leadership Development, a nonprofit that focuses on economic empowerment of underserved populations.
Owens is the executive assistant to the president at California Health Care Foundation. The first in his family to go to college, his campaign planks included fiscal management and boosting enrollment.
