The day after Donald Trumpâs victory, a Hanson resident projected a new image of the president-elect on the townâs water tower, prompting officials on Wednesday to once again bring out the floodlights to wash the image of public property.
The town has also reinstituted fines against the resident, who this time chose to project a red âPunisherâ skull topped with Trump-like hair and a more menacing image than the âTrump 2024â³ message projected onto the tower in the weeks running up to the Nov. 5 election.
The resident, who has not been identified, was fined $100 per day for projecting the logo onto town property, in violation of bylaws. The town does not endorse political candidates.
The town brought out generators to power three floodlights to shine on the tower and dim the image from view.

In a statement released Wednesday evening, Hanson Town Administrator Lisa Green said the town had discontinued its measures to block the political image earlier in the day but reinstated the measures when the newest projections appeared.
âEarlier today, the Town of Hanson discontinued measures put in place to block a political image being projected onto a Town-owned water tower,â Green said in the statement. âRegrettably, the party involved in the image projection resumed projecting today and as a result we have had to yet again take measures to block the projected image.â
Green reiterated that the town does not endorse political candidates, party, or platform, in any election, and its bylaws prohibit the display of political symbols or signage on government property.
âThe Town is duty-bound to enforce those bylaws and is committed to taking whatever action is necessary to prevent future violations,â Green said in the statement.
âAt this time the Town is going to continue its efforts in trying to dim the image with spotlights and fining the resident each day that the image continues to be projected onto Town property,â the spokesperson said by email. âThere are currently no other updates at this time.â
The red âPunisherâ image , a skull with four long front teeth, originates from a vengeance-obsessed Marvel comic anti-hero. The logo has become a favored image among soldiers and law enforcement, white nationalists and Jan. 6 insurrectionists, the Chicago Tribune has reported.

Green has said that the town ârespects the free-speech rights of all residentsâ but said residents may not promote their political views on town property or âin a manner that makes it appear that the Town of Hanson is endorsing any political candidate.â
