Chinese carmaker Deepal has confirmed its S07 mid-sized electric SUV will undercut the top-selling Tesla Model Y on price when it officially hits showrooms next week.
At the Sydney International EV Show this morning, Australian Deepal officials confirmed the S07 would be priced at $53,900 before on-road costs and will be available in a single specification.
That price means it undercuts the Tesla Model Y ($55,900 plus on-roads), and sits lineball with the new Kia EV5 ($56,770 drive-away).

The newcomer also comes in under the upcoming Xpeng G6 (from $54,800 plus on-roads), though doesn’t quite match the value equation of another Chinese mid-sized electric SUV, the Leapmotor C10, which opens at $45,888 before on-roads.
Deepal is bullish about the S07’s sales potential in Australia, confirming it will be sold initially via four showrooms – two in Sydney and two in Melbourne – when sales open on November 11, before separate showrooms in Queensland and Adelaide open in the first quarter of 2025.
In a bid to lure buyers from other marques, the S07 will also come with a complimentary 12-month public charging subscription through the national Evie network, and a 12-month roadside assist package.
The S07 will launch in Australia with a 160kW/320Nm single electric motor, and a 79.97kWh battery giving it 475km of claimed range. Power is sent to the rear wheels only.
The Deepal S07’s exterior is punctuated by bold exterior lines, a raked profile and gaping front air intakes, and inside there’s a Tesla-style minimalist design with flashy materials and flowing styling.
The cabin is headlined by a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that can rotate left or right by 15 degrees to offer “better viewing angles”.
Meanwhile, a gesture control system enables passengers to control features including music, phone calls, and an in-cabin camera using hand gestures.
Where the S07 threatens to polarise buyers is with its lack of a traditional instrument cluster. Instead, Deepal has fitted an augmented reality head-up display that projects navigation directions, vehicle speed, and ADAS data onto the windshield.
The Deepal S07 comes standard with a seven-year, 160,000-kilometre warranty, and an eight-year, 240,000-kilometre battery warranty. Twelve months of complimentary roadside assistance is also included in the purchase price.
