One of President-elect Donald Trump’s most public Michigan-raised supporters, Kid Rock, uploaded a social media video over the weekend that mixed both his celebrity persona with a down-to-earth, post-election message for voters.
The 140-second video was Kid Rock’s first upload to X, formerly Twitter, since a post two days before the election on Tuesday, Nov. 5, when he rallied his followers to “Vote Trump.”
In the most recent post, the Romeo native — born Bob Ritchie — emerges from behind a doorway wearing some Kid Rock-signature rock ‘n’ roll attire, complete with a white fedora hat that reads “MAGA,” the acronym for the the Trump campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
Text overlaying the video announces the post as a “Kid Rock Election Reaction.”
The video begins with the sunglasses-clad Kid Rock smoking a cigar and grabbing a microphone. Without saying a word, he then drops the mic — perhaps a mic-dropping nod to Trump’s decisive victory — before grabbing his crotch and raising a middle finger to the camera.
It‘s a brief gesture that aligns with Kid Rock’s brash, bad-boy rocker celebrity persona.
Then the video quickly pivots in tone.
After the footage cuts away from the hard-rocker, a second scene begins, this time with words that announces the next segment will serve as a “Bob Ritchie Election Reaction.”
Kid Rock emerges again from behind the door, this time wearing typical Michigan civilian clothes: A T-shirt, shorts, Detroit Tigers ballcap, glasses and what appears to be a wrist arthritis wrap.
He sits down in a chair, crosses one leg over the other, and delivers a message directed at supporters of Trump, seemingly aimed at promoting unity with the Republican’s detractors.
“First off, let me convey to my family, friends and supporters, that now is not the time to gloat,” Ritchie said in the video. “We must remember that most of our left-leaning friends are good people who want the same things in life as we do, but simply think differently on how to get there.”
As he speaks, the words are superimposed over images of American flags, suburban neighborhoods, and a Kid Rock concert.
“It is now time to be the bigger man, to extend an olive branch and unite all reasonable people of this great nation,” Ritchie said. “God has blessed America, and together with President Trump, we will make America great again.”
The video ends playing the Kid Rock ballad, “American Rock ‘n’ Roll,” off his 2017 album, “Sweet Southern Sugar.”
A final image shows the poster for Kid Rock’s upcoming “Rock the Country” tour, which includes two June dates in Hastings.
