LEE COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) - The robbery of an ATM technician in Giddings led to a high-speed pursuit with law enforcement and ended with four men from Southeast Texas in custody following the getaway vehicle crashing into a wooded area.
The incident began just after 11 a.m. at Classic Bank, according to Giddings Times & News.
The paper says four men approached the ATM technician and took his phone as well as a large sum of money from the machine.
Lee County Sheriff Garrett Durrenburger said he immediately spotted the suspect’s vehicle and began to pursue them, along with troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement agencies on Highway 290 and through several neighborhoods in Giddings and Lee County.
Spike strips were used to help bring the vehicle to a stop. The driver eventually crashed the car in a wooded area around Highway 290 and James Turman Road.
All four suspects were taken into custody, the Giddings Times & News reported. These suspects include Zachary Walker of Beaumont, driver; Jaemeel Davis of Beaumont; Treshun Green of Humble, who has a record as a violent offender; and John Cook of Houston.
The four were booked into the Lee County Jail and charged with Aggravated Robbery. Other charges, such as evading arrest, are possible.
