BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - One of the unsung parts of A&M football this year is their success on special teams.
Punter Tyler White has earned special teams player of the week three times this season and was the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week following the LSU game.
Kicker Randy Bond is tied for second in the SEC with 16 made field goals, and his 88.9% completion rate ranks third. He also hit his career-long 55 yards against South Carolina.

“Tyler’s been a weapon,” A&M head coach Mike Elko said. “Randy has certainly quietly, maybe a little bit more quietly than Tyler through the beginning of it, but then jumps into it and makes two 50-yard field goals. He’s really gotten into a good rhythm.”
“They’ve both found their way of doing it and been really consistent in their methods of approaching it,” said A*M long snapper Jacob Graham. “Randy being that really methodical kicker. Tyler’s done a great job of not letting any outside stress get to him and really just going out there and being his own guy and trusting and believing in his leg.”
The Aggies attribute a lot of their special teams success to having a special teams coordinator, Patrick Dougherty, which they haven’t had the past several years.
“He was just really impressive with his command of fundamentals, what he wanted schematically, how he had a lot of different options in how he was going to attack things,” Elko said on hiring special teams coordinator Patrick Dougherty. “I thought we were really multiple in our punt scheme. I thought we were really multiple in how we come after punt block.”
“Now that we have an analyst and a coordinator, we’re always doing drills, doing something,” explained A&M punter Tyler White. “Just having Coach Dougherty and Coach Larson around has been awesome. I think they’ve put us in a great space to succeed and do our best every single week.”
The Aggies take on New Mexico State this Saturday at 6:45 p.m. on the SEC Network. It will be the A&M’s Senior Day game.
