Utility Salt River Project has agreed to buy stored energy, from solar and other sources, from a facility in Coolidge, contracting for enough energy to power up to 45,000 homes for four hours.
The Flatland Energy Storage Project run by Houston-based EDP Renewables will provide 200 megawatts of energy stored in large-scale batteries, in which electricity builds up during low-demand morning hours for release later in the day. The facility will be located in EDPR’s Brittlebush Solar Park in Coolidge, for which SRP earlier signed a deal, also for 200 megawatts.
