SpaceX upped the ever-expanding Starlink constellation by another 24 satellites Thursday morning. A Falcon 9 rocket lifted off at 11:07 a.m. EST from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, carrying its payload of satellites into low-Earth orbit.
After stage separation, the rocket's first-stage booster completed its 20th flight by touching down atop the SpaceX drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas in the Atlantic Ocean. The booster previously launched OneWeb 1, SES 18+19, Eutelsat HOTBIRD-F1, CRS-24 and 15 Starlink missions.
Thursday's Starlink 6-66 mission clocked in as the unprecedented 82nd orbital launch of the year thus far from the Space Force installation and NASA's neighboring Kennedy Space Center.
During her Nov. 15 conference remarks, Shotwell said Starlink satellites will continue becoming more powerful, in pace with advances in microchip technology.
“It can reach anyplace on the planet. It physically can do that. Now again, we don’t operate in every market, because you have to go country by country and get permission to do so," Shotwell said.
"But think about where there are no cell towers, no 5G — middle of the ocean is a perfect example of this. Starlink is a great answer to maritime communication,” she said.
Will two SpaceX rockets fly Monday?
Warning: Missions routinely shuffle around on the Eastern Range schedule. That said, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency navigational advisories show a pair of 4½-hour windows for SpaceX Starlink missions will open Monday.
The first window opens from 4:32-9:03 a.m., while the second extends from 10:31 p.m. to 3:02 a.m. Tuesday.
