Three dead, and one injured as a Tesla Cybertruck crashed and ignited in Northern California.
Three people lost their lives, and one person sustained serious injuries early Wednesday morning when a Tesla Cybertruck crashed and ignited in Northern California, according to officials.
The Cybertruck’s occupants were returning from an unspecified event at approximately 3:10 a.m. Chief Bowers declined to provide further details about the event. Another attendee, travelling in a separate vehicle, managed to rescue the surviving victim from the Cybertruck. Piedmont Police Chief Jeremy Bowers suggested that excessive speed likely contributed to the single-vehicle accident. However, he emphasised that an ongoing investigation would explore all factors surrounding the incident.
While the responding police officers were unable to extinguish the fire with their equipment, the fire department swiftly brought the blaze under control. Piedmont Fire Chief Dave Brannigan noted that the rapid extinguishing of the flames suggested it was unlikely that the Cybertruck’s large lithium-ion battery had caught fire. He described the incident as “a typical car fire.”
Addressing concerns about recent Cybertruck recalls, Chief Bowers stated, “There’s no indication that there were mechanical effects that were the primary cause for the collision.”
The Cybertruck, on the market for roughly a year, has undergone six recalls for safety concerns. The most recent, on 5 November, addressed a defect in an electric inverter that could cause the drive wheels to lose power.
