Tesla has informed employees involved in the production of the Cybertruck that they should not go to work for three days. This is another signal of possible problems with the demand for the car, which once collected millions of pre-orders.

The suspension of production became known from an email addressed to employees of the Tesla plant in Austin, Texas. The message states that they «should not go to work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week (December 3-5)». Nevertheless, employees will be paid for their scheduled shifts.
Tesla has not commented on the reasons for this downtime, but Business Insider reported that according to four employees, their work schedule has been unstable over the past month.
The suspension of production is suspicious, especially considering that this is a critical period for Tesla’s supply, particularly for their flagship model.
Today, Tesla is one of the few electric vehicle manufacturers that sold fewer cars this year than in 2023. Despite the overall growth in electric vehicle sales in 2024, Tesla showed a decline in the first half of the year. The third quarter was successful due to increased sales in China, but the overall annual figure is still lower than last year.
To end the year on a strong note, Tesla introduced a number of measures, including increased referral code bonuses, lowered Model Y rental prices, and provided more flexibility in rental terms.
As for the Cybertruck, Tesla recently reduced the rental prices for this model – less than a month after the start of its offer. This is another signal that demand for this controversial vehicle may be lower than expected.
After its presentation in 2019, Cybertruck collected more than 250 thousand pre-orders in less than a week. Later, according to users, the number of reservations reached 2 million. However, when the vehicle entered the market, the situation was not so rosy. The car was released late, exceeded the planned budget, and did not meet some of the promised characteristics. The first available Foundation Series models cost $100 thousand – significantly more than the promised starting price of $40 thousand. Now the basic version is available for $79 thousand. But the RWD model for $61 thousand, which was promised in the future, was recently removed from the Tesla website.
