WEST PALM BEACH — An attorney who rear-ended a motorcyclist during a drunken 2 a.m. crash in suburban Boca Raton will spend two years in prison for her death.
Richard Daniel Dorfman, 42, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide Tuesday, cementing a deal with prosecutors to have a DUI manslaughter charge against him dropped. Circuit Judge Caroline Shepherd is scheduled to sentence him to prison, followed by seven years of probation, on Feb. 11.
According to investigators, Dorfman was driving more than twice the 45-mph speed limit when his 2020 Tesla Model 3 collided with Ingrid Noon's motorcycle on Aug. 26, 2022. More:Suspected driver, vehicle located in hit-and-run death of Palm Beach County teacher
The collision threw 51-year-old Noon from her Kawasaki Vulcan S, causing her to tumble along the road. Dorfman called 911 and told dispatchers that the motorcyclist cut him off — an accusation later disproved with the help of forensic analyses, crash reconstructionists and his Tesla's built-in camera.
According to court records, Noon was travelling the speed limit and had begun to slow in response to a yellow traffic light. Investigators said Dorfman didn't notice the changing traffic signal, instead accelerating from 95 to 104 mph moments before the collision.
Investigators found mix of alcohol and marijuana in attorney's system
The crash took place on Southwest 18th Street, near Boca Rio Road, in unincorporated Boca Raton. Minutes before the wreck, both Dorfman and Noon were seen leaving the since-closed Brickyard Restaurant and Micro Brewery about 2.5 miles away.
First responders who interviewed Dorfman at the crash site said he smelled of alcohol and slurred his words. His eyes were glassy and bloodshot.
Dorfman was taken for unspecified injuries to Boca Raton Regional Hospital, where a blood draw revealed a mix of marijuana and alcohol in his system. Noon was taken to Delray Medical Center, where she died of blunt force trauma. Court records do not indicate whether Noon was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
