Starlink Users Reach 4.6 Million Worldwide
SpaceX, the aerospace company led by Elon Musk, has achieved a significant milestone with its Starlink satellite internet service. The platform now serves over 4.6 million users across 118 countries and territories, marking a rapid growth of 1.6 million new users in just seven months.

In May 2024, SpaceX reported 3 million Starlink users. The company has since focused on expanding its services, activating connectivity in 27 new markets. To support this growth, SpaceX completed 89 launches throughout the year, dedicated to building and enhancing its Starlink satellite constellation.
Currently, Starlink operates with over 7,000 active satellites in low Earth orbit, including nearly 350 designed to connect directly to LTE phones. This infrastructure supports reliable, high-speed internet access, particularly in remote and underserved regions.
What’s Next for Starlink?
SpaceX is now gearing up to launch its third-generation (V3) Starlink satellites. These advanced satellites will be deployed using the company’s upcoming Starship launch vehicle. Each launch is expected to add 60 terabits per second (Tbps) of capacity to the Starlink network, significantly outpacing the 3 Tbps capacity of current Falcon 9 launches.
While Starship is still in development and undergoing tests, it is expected to revolutionize satellite deployment. The larger payload capacity of Starship will enable SpaceX to deploy more advanced satellites, providing a 10x increase in bandwidth and reduced latency for Starlink users.
Why It Matters
Starlink’s growth reflects its potential to reshape global internet connectivity. By the end of 2023, the segment achieved cash-flow breakeven, signalling its growing profitability.
SpaceX COO Gwynne Shotwell stated in November 2023, “Starship will position SpaceX as one of the world’s most valuable companies.”
As Starlink continues to expand, it promises to bridge the digital divide by delivering affordable, high-speed internet to underserved communities worldwide. With the upcoming V3 satellites, Starlink is set to become an even more integral part of the global connectivity landscape.
