| UPDATED: An automotive expert has warned that a Chinese car brand could overtake Tesla, becoming the most popular electric vehicle manufacturer in the UK.
While many drivers look forward to the wide range of models due to launch in 2025, manufacturers will be under even more pressure to ensure they sell enough electric cars.
According to Thom Groot, CEO of The Electric Car Scheme, one company set to do particularly well in 2025 is the Chinese-owned BYD, which could sell more EVs in the UK than Tesla.
He explained: "2025 is still Tesla’s to lose in terms of the most popular EVs, but we predict it will be closer than ever, with other models closing the gap.
"There is also likely to be a big jump generally in the popularity of EVs, as affordability increases, and the used market continues to mature. Manufacturers such as BYD could soon be a common site on UK roads, but recognisable producers such as Volvo and Volkswagen are still set to make an impact."
