WhistlinDiesel Puts the Cybertruck Through Hell

YouTuber Cody Detwiler, better known as the infamous WhistlinDiesel on YouTube, posted a follow-up video to his Tesla Cybertruck durability test series this past Sunday. Unfortunately for fans of Elon Musk's pseudo-battle tank, we at Road & Track do have to inform you that a Cybertruck was indeed harmed in the making of this film.
Detwiler blew up the internet back in August 2024 with the first video in this series, which saw a Cybertruck face off against a Ford F-150 in a knock-down, drag-out durability test. That earlier vid famously featured the Cybertruck snapping its frame and disassembling itself via the rear hitch, which in itself spawned a load of drama about the truck’s claimed capabilities. (Suffice it to say, the influencer’s measures are a bit more extreme than a typical durability testing regime inside an automaker, Built Ford Tough ads be damned.)
Now, Detwiler is back to put the Cybertruck through more automotive abuse. The Ford also returns for more fun, aiming to solidify its lead in this extremely scientific test.
Part 2 begins with a tug of war, harking back to the hype video Elon and crew released in the lead up to the Cybertruck launch. Things don’t go quite as well for the Tesla this time around, as the F-150 managed to pull out a tie. The Cybertruck earned back a point for the transparent fun offered by the updated Baja drive mode, but it’s important to be mindful with the torque slider; Detwiler snapped a motor shaft after putting the truck in “front drive” mode and attempting donuts. (It’s also entirely possible the shaft was damaged from any number of previous activities)
The third test involved loading each truck with a pallet of concrete blocks, which weighed about a ton and a half. That’s more than the factory-rated capacity of either truck, so remember that this isn’t exactly a prudent endeavor; then again, most people don’t make a baby rally course to take their loaded trucks down, either, so it's safe to say safety not guaranteed here. The Ford lost a second driveshaft in the process, while the Tesla lost a rear wheel assembly. The Tesla earned a point back shortly thereafter, after the F-150 failed to make it through a deep-water trek.
You should really watch the video and enjoy the final few tests for yourself, but just know that neither truck really managed to distinguish itself this time around. Of course, there will almost certainly be a part three coming soon... though I’m not convinced either truck will actually survive the next round.
