Last week, Tesla unveiled the mid-cycle refresh of the Model Y in China, and a select few markets were supplied by Tesla’s factory in Shanghai, such as Australia and the Philippines.
The first deliveries in China are expected to start in March – pending regulatory approval. The new Model Y hasn’t been launched in Europe or North America yet, but it is expected to happen in the coming months.
We already cover most design changes and new features coming to the updated Model Y, which is the world’s best-selling car, but there’s another new feature that is not necessarily linked to the update that we haven’t discussed much: Glacier Blue.
Tesla is notorious for not making many colors available on its new vehicles. Its logic is that limiting the number of color options streamlines its ordering process, removes production complexity, and makes it easier to match inventory vehicles to new orders.
But it also led some people to complain about the lack of diversity in color options, with Tesla rarely offering more than 5 or 6 color options. However, it did result in creating a significant wrap aftermarket for Tesla vehicles.
Now, with the new Model Y in China, Tesla has launched a new color called “Glacier Blue”:
It is a much lighter blue than Tesla’s ‘deep blue metallic’ currently offered on vehicles outside of China.
