A new discovery in the latest Tesla iOS app update suggests that the EV maker is preparing to launch the base model rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck.
Tesla has already said that this Cybertruck will start deliveries in 2025. The IRS has also corroborated this timeline after the base model Cbyertruck was added to the list of 2025 electric vehicles that qualify for the $7,500 EV tax credit.
There isn’t a lot of publicly available information regarding the base model Tesla Cybertruck; however, we at least know the truck will have a starting price of $61,000.
In addition, Tesla has shared that this Cybertruck variant will have a 250-mile EPA range and a 6.5-second 0 to 60 time.
So far, this is all the information we have; however, thanks to “Tesla App Updates (iOS),” we have our first hint at what features Tesla is looking to eliminate to lower the starting price of this model.
Tesla App Update (iOS) is a white hat hacker group that reviews the latest Tesla iOS app update and announces new features.
The group describes itself, writing, “We monitor the App Store for any new updates to the Tesla app, then tweet about it if we find a new version. We also de-compile new versions. much wow.”
In the latest 4.41.0 Tesla iOS app De-Compile, this group has found a few interesting bits that suggest the base model Cybertruck will not have a powered tonneau cover or even AC outlets on the bed.
Tesla App Update iOS shared this finding on X writing…
“Version 4.41.0 has been released, and wow, this was a juicy update:
- Tesla Insurance FSD discount 💸
- Tesla Diner UI 🍔
- Automatic Tonneau cover / AC outlets will not be standard across all trims of Cybertruck, guessing RWD. 📐
And much more.”
Specifically, Telsa App iOS has found two lines of code: one specifying whether a Cybertruck variant has an automatic tonneau cover and the other suggesting that the AC outlet is an optional feature.

Given that all Cybertrucks currently in production have automatic tonneau covers, and the AC outlets come standard, there was no need to separate these items.
However, by specifying these features, Tesla appears to be preparing the code for the RWD Cybertruck launch.
Tesla App Update (iOS) explicitly points to the lines of code they found and their conclusions, writing…
“hasAutomaticTonneau — Looks like the cheaper RWD Cybertruck will be getting a Manual Tonneau cover.
OPTIONAL_HAS_AC_OUTLETS_NOT_SET — Also looks like the cheaper RWD Cybertruck will not come standard with AC outlets.”
If Tesla App Update’s interpretation of the code is correct, this confirms the $61,000 Cybertruck will not have a powered tonneau cover or AC outlets in the bed.
Interestingly, the single-motor Cybertruck is the same base model version that Elon Musk showed off in 2019. At the time, Musk said that this Cybertruck variant would have a starting price of $39,990.
However, despite the lower price, Elon Musk later revealed that less than 20 percent of Cybertrcuk reservation holders decided to go with the base model.
This means more than 80% of the reservation holders chose the dual-motor and the tri-motor variants, which cost $10,000 and $30,000 more than the base model.
What’s most likely going on here is that a single-motor rear-wheel-drive truck that can only travel 250 miles on a full charge will be challenging to use in off-road situations or to tow or haul heavy objects for any reasonable distance.
In cold weather tests, we’ve already seen the Cybertruck’s range cut below 100 miles when towing large non-aerodynamic objects.
This is with a version of the Cyberturck with a 325-mile EPA range. Now, think about what towing will be in a 250-mile range truck.
I believe there are valid concerns about whether a $61,000 single-motor rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck with a 250-mile range will be popular.
The point-of-sale EV tax credit can lower the starting price to $53,500; however, the range and the rear-wheel drive might be dealbreakers for a lot of people.
Overall, these are some of the features Tesla is cutting to achieve the lower price of the base model Cybertruck. Please let me know what you think in the comments.
