Mary Jane Schireck is a mother and says her son's Tesla Model 3 experienced a bizarre issue during a recent drive.
Mary’s son Brendan was driving back to the University of Colorado after visiting his family in Pleasanton, California. In the middle of his long journey, as he was passing through Utah, Brendan noticed a burning smell and a lot of heat coming from his Tesla Model 3 seats.
Alarmed by what was happening, Brendan stopped on the side of the road and got out of his car. There, he was surprised to find the heating coils burning through the white vegan leather of his Model 3 seats.
Brendan, distressed, immediately called his mom to inform her of this bizarre incident.
After failing to find similar issues online, the concerned mother decided to share her son’s story with the world.
Mary writes…
“My son has a 2018 Model 3 Performance. (Pleasanton, California) He was home for winter break, and on his drive back to Boulder, Colorado, where he goes to college at the University of Colorado, he called me really upset.
He smelled burning, and his back was getting hot around Utah. And he pulled the car over to discover the coils of his seat were burning through.”
The concerned mother continues to say the issue happened despite Brendan setting his seat heater to a low setting.
Mary writes… “He had the heater on low.”
The concerned mother continues to say…
“I googled it and couldn’t find this happening to anyone, and when I called Tesla, they said to call 911 if he’s in danger. He shut off the heater, drove back, and is trying to get in for an appointment. Has anyone else experienced this? I have a 2022 Model 3 Performance, and I’ve never had a problem.”
Below her post, Mary included a picture of her son's blue Tesla Model 3. As you can see, the white vegan leather seats are burned from the inside out.
If you look closely, you can even see the outline of the heating coils burned onto the Tesla Model 3 seats.
This is certainly an alarming incident, and Mary says up to now they haven’t been able to determine the root cause of the issue.
Mary added that since it’s the weekend, her son hasn’t yet been able to get an appointment at a Tesla service center.
Looking at people’s reactions to this incident, most people are horrified and share their gratitude that Brendan was not hurt.
However, some Tesla fans say the story is fake, claiming that the Tesla Model 3 seat heaters do not extend to the seat back.
In response, Mary shared several more pictures showing the inside-out burnt Model 3 seat backs; however, some people responded by saying she has only given her son a 2018 Model 3, and this incident should be a wake-up call to upgrade to a newer model.
That’s a surprising take. However, please let me know what you think in the comments. Share your ideas by clicking the “Add new comment” button below. Also, visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.
